![]() It's as though Sega wanted to magnify the faults of the control scheme as much as possible. It makes almost no sense for a game that is primarily about action. You are required to jump across many tiny platforming areas, but your character mov es way to fast and the camera is far too unstable for precision platforming. Unfortunately, the game falters in the later stages. The difficulty gradually ramps up from easy at the start to hard. The action is fast and practically on rails, so you rarely have to pause and ponder where to go. Nightshade has some new features over Shinobi, such as being able to use a stealth attack, which is great against bosses. Like Shinobi, Nightshade uses a combat system where you accumulate power by defeating enemies, and this is especially useful against bosses. The framerate of the game is always 60 fps, keeping up with all the fast action. You control a female ninja who can dart around and slash at great speeds. Then if you enjoyed that sort of gameplay and then can stomach the more demanding playstyle of Hotsuma, grab Shinobi.Nightshade is the sequel to Shinobi on the PS2, and it shares much in common. If interested in playing, consider trying Nightshade first. Hotsuma, (the main character of Shinobi) is unlockable in Nightshade, along with his signature always-draining-your-health playstyle. The sequel Nightshade (released as Kunoichi in Japan) was more forgiving, added a bunch of interesting mechanics and generally was fancier but the pure distilled simplicity & flow of Shinobi was lost in the process. Game was hard, demanded a lot from players (perhaps to much) early on but once settled it few games provide a similar feeling of zen-flow, almost feels like a combination of rhythm, puzzle & action, as you zip around the stage dodging attacks from multiple directions, execute perfect chains and kill bosses in one hit. Oof gigaton nostalgia bomb, loved this back in the day but looks like it never any more popular over the years, unlike many other lost darlings of the PS2. /r/GamePhysics - Clips of game physics shining and glitchingĭesign based on /r/FlatBlue created by /u/creesch./r/gaming4gamers - middle ground between purely-for-fun and more serious subreddits./r/GamingLeaksAndRumours - Leaks and Rumors.Posting unmarked spoilers will result in removal and warning, and posting spoilers with malicious intent will result in a ban.
